A couple of weekends ago, we spent our time in Phoenix so we could attend some events.
The first event was Sleepy Dog Brewery Fundraiser for Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue.
Bella was the Spokes Pup, Mascot, and Ambassador. She was a wonderful little helper and she sets the lighting for the rest of the dogs (we ended up not using the lights, because the shade and natural light was just perfect).
We spent the day taking pictures of dogs for a donation, and then uploaded the photos to a Facebook album. It was a great turnout, considering this was ACDR’s first event of this nature. We only expect the next one will be even better!
The next event we went to was the Paws for a Wish which benefits Canine Cancer and the Make A Wish Arizona. It was a big event with so many dog sports to try and vendors to explore. There was lure coursing, herding, dock diving, agility, and Frisbee.
We didn’t make it to the Agility area (we didn’t realize there was a trial! But now we know for next time) and we barely managed to catch a little of the Frisbee demos toward the end of the event.
However, Bella and Kronos each took their Herding Instinct Tests. They both definitely have the Herding Instinct! Terra actually has her Herding Instinct Test today at a facility in Benson (we contacted them about testing her, so we didn’t want to be rude and not follow through). Terra and Kronos each got a chance at the Lure Course, and they both loved it. Terra gets so excited about lure coursing she makes a very odd high-pitched yelp.
We finished the day with Dock Diving! Bella and Terra don’t seem to be major water dogs (though they both enjoy swimming), so Kronos was the only one who tried this sport this time. Bella prefers to wade into water to get the toy and she will go all the way around the pool to go in using the steps instead of jumping off the side, and Terra likes to immerse herself in the water to cool off, but she doesn’t swim a ton (unless she’s chasing waterfowl-then she herds them in the water). But Kronos will jump from the side, or will try to jump even if he’s already in the water.
Kronos is a dock diving freak! He loooves water and even tried jumping in from the ground!
And it was definitely a hit! As soon as Kronos noticed there was water, he got so excited he stood up on his hind legs to see the dogs jumping in.
Here is a video of Kronos’s first experiences with the dog sports:
When Bella & Terra try a couple more sports, we will make a sport video compilation for them too. Until then, we will be working on new trick videos for all the dogs! They have learned so much that it’s high time they each had a new one.
This next week we will be going on a road trip to a surprise destination-we’ll let you know where we are when we get there =D
