Diamond Dog Critique: #PetBox Review and Giveaway

Today we’d like to take the time to share a convenient and high-quality subscription service. We were selected to receive and review a whole box of goodies via PetBox.

We waited anxiously for ours to arrive and were very excited when it came in the mail.

Before we share what we received in our PetBox, we’d like to provide a bit of background on the product. We are very impressed with the concept behind the subscription service and would recommend this company mainly because with every PetBox they send out, they also feed a rescue animal! This is unique to us and is supporting a great cause! Mom was happy to read this. And seeing as Kronos came from a rescue, we definitely like this idea-it’s a wonderful way to give back to the community. And for December, 100% of their proceeds will be donated to pet shelters.

Something else that is fun about PetBox is that you can choose what comes in it! Or, if you want it to be a surprise, you can choose that as an option too. It’s completely up to you.

Another thing that hit home with mom is that the products that are offered are good quality. Mom says it’s important that what we eat is good for us and that it will provide us with energy for whatever we do. We are big fans of Honest Kitchen and were super excited to see the Smooches! The other treats were all new to us, so it was our job to scout them out and see if they passed all of our treat tests. (Bella is the head inspector as she can sometimes be picky, though Kronos and Terra will eat just about anything).

Here’s what came in the box:

Clear Conscience Sliders & Tenderstikz

(with a neat pamphlet about the treats)

The Honest Kitchen Smooches

Healthy Dogma Pumpkin Ginger Treats

NoviPet Multi Vitamin

$10 DogTV GiftCard

So we set to work putting the items through our tests.

The Healthy Dogma treats were a hit. Terra had to concentrate really hard to ignore the scrumptious aroma wafting off of the small treats. The treats are the perfect size for training too (so mom says, we’d prefer if they were bigger and if we got lots of them!).

As experienced toy de-stuffer connoisseurs, we had to try out the duck toy. It managed to make it through one of our rough play sessions (which includes shaking, running, and tugging) and we are excited to play with it again! The toy has great spots that are just perfect for grabbing, and it’s big enough for two to play! Bella wasn’t too interested by the toy, but that’s ok because she’s much more of a fetch girl unless mom really riles her up to tug a toy.

Our absolute favorite treats that came in this PetBox were the Sliders! Their ingredients are great (no vague information or words that we can’t pronounce!-such as by-product, corn starch, natural flavors [um, could you please just tell us what it is instead of saying “natural flavors?],” ferrous sulfate, etc.) and straightforward. The fiber is also 3% which is excellent! (Mom found out that any fiber percentage above 5% is not ideal. The fiber percentage stands for the amount of the edible plants that is indigestible and that is not being used in our bodies. So that’s basically wasted ingredients in the food and junk in our systems!).

The treats are also made in the USA and we are uber stoked about that-we have heard of too many recalls and deaths and other negative things from treats made outside the U.S. Although we didn’t see anything that said “safe for human consumption,” we also didn’t see words such as these: “Not for human consumption,” “A Pet Food-inedible,” “treated with radiation,” “wash hands immediately after handling.” We found out a couple of months ago that some products actually have that on their labels and packaging and it’s a bit disturbing… How many people have kids in addition to their pets who might like to sample their food or treats? Well, when mom was younger she isn’t ashamed to admit that she sampled the family pup’s milkbones. It’s also a bit disturbing to us because why would you feed something to your animal companion that is unsafe for you to eat yourself or that says it is unsafe?

Canine Calm is a relaxing spray that smells nice.
We’d probably use this just for the smell and are curious to see how it works.

Overall, we were very impressed with our PetBox. Let’s recap: PetBox offers the option for you to pick your own goodies or you can pick a surprise box and it’s sent out to you the next day; for every box that is shipped PetBox feeds a rescue animal; they offer healthy and good quality products for you to choose from; they have boxes available for your dog or cat; and 100% of the proceeds from December are being donated to pet shelters!

  1. I’m more than a little confused. I just got your e-mail newsletter today (10/9/14) with a link to this article/giveaway but find that it’s from nearly a year ago and that the giveaway has been over since last December. Is it a mistake or did you intend to just post it for the review you did? I was looking forward to entering the giveaway.
